m23 halfBaked 0.4.99 dev1 is ready!

After a long time of development the new development release is ready for download. It contains already some features of the 0.5 series:
  • It's so colorful now:This m23 version says goodbye to the grayish look of the predecessor. Icons and other graphical symbols are showing functions and graphical information. (like you can see on the screenshot)

  • Group functions: Some voted that they want to use m23 for management of more than 1000 clients (this must be brave administrators ;-)).
    And now the long time announced group functions are included. That will make the administration of a lot of clients much easier:
    • Groups can be created, deleted and renamed.
    • Clients can be added to, removed from or moved to one or more groups.
    • Packages can be installed to or removed from all clients in one or more groups. The new update function, that updated the software on the clients, can be applied to groups too.

  • Problem solution helpers: There are some helpers, to find the source of error at the clients:
    • The debug mode disables the status information screens, that are shown on the client. This makes it possible to see the output of the applications. The whole output is logged and transfered to the server, to allow a later analysis.
    • You can log in the running installation process via SSH with the client direct connection and do some manual operations.

  • Behördendesktop ERPOSS3: The Linux distribution "Behördendesktop ERPOSS3" was developed by the german company Credativ and can now be installed with m23.

  • Peanuts:
    • Distribution selection in 3 steps: Distributions are now selected in 3 steps to avoid errors that occured from a wrong order in the distribution selection.
    • XFce as additional desktop: XFce may be a good choice for old computers and can now be installed with m23 too. On my old Cyrix 166+ with 64MB ram it runs really fast.
    • And of course the usual thousands of little peanuts: Bugfixes, source code beautification and cleaning. A lot of code is now used on different places to make development easier.

Error after update!

There was an error in the update to the version 0.4.11 that makes it impossible to enter the m23 administration interface. The new update to version 0.4.13 solves this problem. If you can't log into the interface, execute the following commands as root on the m23 server, please:
