If you don't want to live in a state à la "1984" and you want that development and distribution of software should remain legal for everyone, then you have different possibilities to get into the act. We would like to recommend these five organisations:
This version continues the new and shorter release cycles. Most of the changes deal with the setup of XOrg and the VirtualBox guest addons.
The old and in several files stored detection and configuration routines for XOrg were merged into one new script, that is called on changes of graphic card, mouse or kernel. It contains four detection routines to create a working XOrg configuration file. There is a function to install the VirtualBox addons too, that is called if the m23 client is installed into VirtualBox. Four different installation and addition-fetching-routines try to make the setup of the VirtualBox additions possible in as much scenarios as possible.
A new dialog in the m23 webinterface deals with the downloading of the VirtualBox addition installation packages to the m23 server and the assigning of a VirtualBox addition standard version, that will be installed on m23 clients, that are installed into Virtualbox, if the client could not determinte the VirtualBox version it is executed under. Downloading of the additions to the m23 server will save you some bandwidth.
A new button was added that can be used - without the detour via the package installation dialog - to install VirtualBox on the m23 clients. When creating a new virtual m23 client, the VirtualBox version of the host is shown in the creation dialog too.
The creation of the device nodes was accelerated by extracting an archive, that contains all device nodes, on the clients.
The MDK (m23 development kit) got some extra scripts, that are used for m23, but may be profitably for other purposes too. There is a Twitter tool with FaceBook support for example, that posts messages to both sites with only one call or a script that executes a 64 bit VirtualBox in a 64 chroot under a 32 bit Debian with 64 bit kernel.
Some minor fixed were done too. E.g. the re-activation of the client installation CD burning function or the correction of an SQL error.
The new version is available as update via the m23 webinterface or APT and as ISO file. But m23 rock 10.3 can be installed with the m23 rock 10.1a server installation CD too, if the online update is choosen during the installation procedure. So there is no need to burn a new CD, if you burned 10.1a before.
Have fun!
The m23 project will have a booth at the Linuxtag in Berlin from 9th to 12th of June this year. At the moment we don't know how big the presentation will be, but it will certainly be bigger than the CeBIT booth ;-) This time we will come up with some new interesting, informative and funny presentation ideas for m23.
There we will show things, we presented at the CeBIT before and some new stuff. Of course our nice penguin will be there and a slightly or much bigger Musterbüro will teach, how a office desktop installed with m23 may look like. Our booth will be the right place for you, if you have precise (up to the source code level) or general questions about m23. But the final decision about m23's presentation can be made after we know the dimensions of the booth. The Linuxtag organisators like our new concept as it seems ;-)
The soon emerging m23 rock 10.3 with extended virtualisation functionality will be part of the presentation and a funny quiz about m23 to test your knowledge about m23, Linux and penguins will be added. Come and see (Particularly with regard to the quiz master)!
Every project at the Linuxtag will get a contingent of free tickets. We will give away our free tickets to all who interested in m23 and for visiting the m23 booth and other free projects and speeches.
I keep you informed via this page, when I know more. Till then:
Have fun and maybe we will see in Berlin!
We have made some more step-by-step video lessons about m23. Unfortunately, these are currently only available in German.
You can watch them in the playlist "m23 - Schritt für Schritt" at YouTube. The videos are available as high quality Ogg Theora videos in the at m23's video section at SourceForge too.
This short video tutorial will teach you how to install and set up an m23 server in a VirtualBox machine. The tutorial covers among other things:
Watch video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihd7fhRNpSg
This short video gives an impression of the VNC m23 VirtualBox OSE console. You can see (not in realtime) how the m23 client is beeing installed.
The video can be downloaded in high resolution as Ogg Theora video.
You can watch an animated slideshow created by Bilderfilmer.de, when you are exhausted from clicking on all those screenshots...

Some impressions from the Linux Lounge at the "Kieler Open Source und Linux Tage" 2012.
The videos are available as high quality Ogg Theora video too and can be downloaded from here.
Tux will ask questions at the LinuxTag in Berlin and disapprove of wrong answers and agree to right answers in his charming way. When there is nobody to play with him he will pass the time snoring or having a hiccup. You should take a look at this video if you want to see him in action.
The m23 community page got two new features. First there is a search function, that scans the page for keywords and second a message box for sending a message to me quickly and easily.
The site search uses the Google search engine and is deactivated by default to secure your privacy. To use it, you have to activate it manually. Then the search dialog will appear and you can use it (with all pros and cons of Google) to search the m23 community page and other sites of mine. The search function will help e.g. to find older articles or search through the manual.
You can find the message box at the top right under the heading "Send message to developer". There you can leave me a message in a simple way. If you want to tell me, that you like m23, this will be the right place ;-) And if you enter your eMail address, I can answer you too. Questions and messages that are of interest for all m23 users (e.g. bug reports) should be placed in the forum anyhow.
Have fun!
There are good news for all of you, who cannot get enough of web 2.0, because m23 got facebook page too. You can read the m23 news there and follow the m23 project.
If you don't like web 2.0 or even web 1.0, the new m23 user mailinglist may be of interest for you. You can ask questions there or post bugs if you dislike the webbased forum. Of course you can use your favourite eMail client for it.
I posted two jobs at SourceForge's "Help Wanted" page. The first is about doing test installations on various x86 hardware. Your bug and success reports will help to improve the hardware detection of m23. The second is a promition and marketing job for increasing m23's degree of popularity.
Please contact me, if you would like to help ;-)
Have fun!
