The new version wasn't available till the end of the year (did I say which year I ment?) but it's available now!

There were few changes concerning the predecessor m23-halfBaked 0.5.0-RC2:
  • Changing of the version number
  • WakeOnLan should work now again
  • Updated welcome texts
If you downloaded the ISO file for m23-halfBaked 0.5.0-RC2 you may update the server via the update function to safe bandwidth. For a new server installation you should download the new ISO instead.

Ahead of schedule: There is a new release candidate. m23 halfBaked 0.5 RC2 corrects an issue with the new m23 installer.

There wase debug code in the installer that sets the installation drive to /dev/sda and its size to 4096 MB.Shit happens if you don't have a SCSI drive ;-) You only need the new RC2 ISO if you want to install you m23 with the operating system included in the ISO. An installation on top of an existing operating system can be done with the RC1 ISO too.

Please try the new m23 release and post bug reports in the forum to make m23 halfBaked 0.5 available in time at the end of the year.

It's done now! m23 halfBaked 0.5 RC1 (release candidate) is ready for download. I hope this will be the last release before the final 0.5;-)

Change-over of the server base

The operating system of the m23 server is the new stable release of Debian called "Sarge" now. Lots of tools that had to be downloaded in addition are now included in the CD image.

New server installation tool

The new m23 installer is more universal now and supports three different installation types:
  • Complete installation (Debian Sarge + m23) of the server
  • Installation of the m23 archivs on the CD on top of an existing Debian Sarge system
  • Network installation on top of an existing Debian Sarge system without the need to download the installation CD before.
It is possible to choose which components should be configured automatically or by hand in the two last modi.

Changed

Some choice changes from m23 halfBaked 0.4.99-pre3
  • Corrections of the pool builder. Now it should work as expected.
  • More Ubuntu compatibility: The new Ubuntu version "The Breezy Badger" is supported as client distribution.
  • Additional drivers in the network boot images.
  • User accounts for logging into the clients can be stored on a LDAP server or loaded from a LDAP server.
  • Installation of printer drivers and autodetection of attached printers.
  • Home directories of the clients can be stored on a NFS server.
  • Existing Debian or Ubuntu systems can be assimilated and managed as normal m23 clients.
  • m23 can create images from partitions and harddrives and use these images to install clients. This images can be configured like normal Debian systems. E.g. imaging makes it easier to install a huge number of similar systems with complex software equipment and configuration.
  • It is possible to select the timezone and if NTP should be used to synchronise the system clock for each client.
  • And of course: The "thoussands" of little changes and corrections. Have a look on the changelog if you are interested.

m23 0.5 HalfBaked will be available at the end of the year and no new feature requests aren't accepted any more now. From now only bugs in existing functions are fixed. This means: Send me tons of bug reports ;)

And again many thanks to all people who posted feature requests in the forum.
