|
|
Hello,
I'm sorry but I don't speak german (yet ...
I've successfully installed the m23 server (made the update to 0.4.9 shiver-final, I'm able to use it, I configured one client, booting with pxe (wake on lan is not working but this is not so important) and I was able to partition, format and install the client with Debian Woody (status is now green).
Everything seems ok but unfortunately, the client is not booting with the following error message :
Booting from local disk...
1962 No operating system found.. Press F1 key...
And the client is rebooting again and again :'|
Did i missed something or if it is a bug, may I help you debugging it ?
PS :
It seems there are also some troubles to fetch kde packages for woody from the default archive configured on the server. |

What kind of user interface did you select for the client (KDE3, Gnome, Textmode)?

Yes, this should be the problem. I asked the KDE3 package maintainer yesterday and he said that the new packages are being uploaded. Why the old packages disappeared he couldn't say.
To use the new packages simply edit the package source in the m23 administration interfaces:
packages -> packagesources
load "stable"
change in the line with KDE3 "2.2" to "2.2.2"
The packages may be uploaded now, but I don't know. Test it, please _________________ Hauke Goos-Habermann

I'm trying to install with the client with the kde3 interface (also tried gnome but without success).
The package spool for kde 3.2.2 seems up to date but I'm not able to test as my client is still unable to boot (performed a full delete and new installation of the client).
I've seen that the default kernel installed is 2.4.26-*** which is not a Woody kernel... (I'm now trying to install the client with 2.4.18-i686).
During the install process I was able to see an error message while symlinking vmlinuz (not such file or directory).
As i'm only performing some tests my partitioning is the default one (/ and swap partition only).
It seems there are some strange behaviour from the web interface, sometimes I click on Install distribution and it does not work but if I click Refresh I go to the next step. I will discuss it into the adequate forum.
Thanks for your help and time anyway |

Could you try to install in "Textmode" and post if it works?

On 6-2-04 I tried the new kde source and saw that 2 packages are missing for a correct kde installation. My client booted up, but with no kde, because of the missiong packages.

I think this kernel is comming from the kde 3.2.2. package source. It contains a lot of additional packages that are not really kde relevant.

Does it say something with "test =="? This message doesn't matter. It is an error message that occurs during the probing for the kernel name.
If it's another error message, post it here, please.

Should be ok.

You have to click on the same button twice. It changes its name from "Format client" to "Select distribution". Don't use the refresh button.
What browser did you use?

If you have good ideas to make the user interface better, post it to the wishlist for the 0.5.0 release here. _________________ Hauke Goos-Habermann

Hello,
I have a similar problem: client rebooting after "installation" without a valid
I use shiver-final 0.4.8, and try to install a client with texmode+Sarge+kernel-2-4-686,
I see many dpkg errors regarding pre-dependancy problems and after all dpkg work, I see these errors:
-=-=-=-=-
E: Package hwsetup not found
mount: /proc already mounted
ls: /vmlinuz : no such file or directory
/tmp/afterChrootInstall.sh : 254 : test : =: unary operator expected
...
Fatal: Default image doesn't exist
...
-=-=-=-=-
then the client automatically reboots ...
ps: I am evaluating M23 for a 1500 machines deployement which should begin in a very short time, so any fast help welcome |

Seems that there is missing the important part of the sentence Do you meen "kernel"?

The errors a the beginning are normal, this is because m23 uses debootstrap to do the installation. If the system is empty there are a lot of unmet denpendencies

That's not good. Do you have a special proxy/gateway configuration in your network that could prevent downloading of the software packages? This could be the cause for the error with the kernel. Do you see other error during installation?

This doesn't matter, it's only code for testing the kernel location. It doesn't look nice, but should work.

without a valid OS , in fact there is no bootloader installed ...

I use a local mirror and there is no pb with the hwsetup package availability ...
I probably miss some previous error message but the thing goes very fast, how can I log the whole installation output to a file ? |

Logging the whole outpts is not very simple. There have to be make changes to the scripts. This will be done in a later release.
You can see the whole output without the ncurses text boxes, if you add a new line in the table "remotevars"! with the IP of your client, "DEBUG" for the variable name and "1" as the value. If an error occurs you can prest ctrl+c in the console to stop execution and scroll up with shift+up.
There should be some log files under /tmp allready. You may have a look at them.[/quote] _________________ Hauke Goos-Habermann
