Hi all,

I need to install my clients with a Dutch interface and Belgian keyboard.
There is no selection for keyboard possible and the language list for the clients only lists English, French and German. I searched in the documentation and development documentation, but I can't find a procedure how to make that possible.

When I try to look in the wiki, I get a blank screen - sorry if the info is there Sad.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Hi,

koenr wrote:

is this the normal Dutch configuration?

What interface (Gnome, KDE, XFce) do you want to use?

Yes, currently we support these three lnaguages, because they exist in the m23 interface too. But I can add Dutch too : wink:

Internally "Dutch" is definded (like in Knoppix) as follows:
Code:
$out[country]="nl";
$out[lang]="nl_NL@euro";
$out[keymap]="us";
$out[xkeyboard]="us";
$out[kdekeyboard]="en_US";
$out[locale]="iso8859-15";
//Additional KDE Keyboards;
$out[kdekeyboards]="nl,de,fr";
$out[timezone]="Europe/Amsterdam";

Can you specify me the values, you would like to use?

Language specific packages should all contain a "nl", so not very complicated.

You are right, thank you for the hint. This must be another victim of the changes SF made after the hack. Maybe it is a good time to switch or close the wiki.

Dutch is spoken in several countries and with different keyboards:

Belgium: Dutch with Belgium Azerty keyboard
Netherlands: Dutch with Netherlands querty keyboard (which is different from the American querty)
Keyboards are a nightmare. So there doesn't exist something like THE keyboard for Dutch

I'm trying to roll out Ubuntu with a Gnome desktop

The settings I would like to use are

$out[country]="be";
$out[lang]="nl_BE@euro";
$out[keymap]="be";
$out[xkeyboard]="be";
$out[kdekeyboard]="nl_BE";
$out[locale]="iso8859-15"; -- could this be utf-8 too?
//Additional KDE Keyboards;
$out[kdekeyboards]="nl,de,fr";
$out[timezone]="Europe/Brussels";

I think a wiki is a very valuable tool, given a userbase large and willing enough to fill it.
For years we had a dutch wiki for Moodle, but we had to leave it, since there was not enough imput in it. That said, the English wiki is good and most people in the Netherlands and Belgium speak English well.

I think it would be an added value to the m23 website if people could add their tips and tricks somewhere. At the moment I'm trying to replace openoffice by libreoffice and firefox 3.6 by firefox 4 on an m23 ubuntu 10.4. If I find how to do it, I'm sure others are interested to see how it can be done... It would be sad of the invested time if some one else has done it allready and the documentation is not publicly available.

Thanks a lot for responding so quickly!

On your request, we looked into sourceforge's MediaWiki options - sadly, there is no possibility (yet) to allow logged-in sourceforge users to contribute to a wiki Confused - only those who have admin or editing rights for the whole project seem to be allowed to edit the wiki.
So, in its current form, it's virtually useless Sad . There have been "ideas" posted several times, but sourceforge does not encourage this because of spam fear. They just don't seem to understand that keeping the barrier for entry low encourages users to contribute to a project. Maybe you can help to revive this posted idea:

ok. Do you know the names of the according language-pack-gnome and language-pack-kde packages (just -be added)?

Is "nl_BE@euro" utf-8 too or must it have another value, if $out[locale] is set to utf-8?

It was not used very much and now the MediaWiki doesn't work anymore. As Maren wrote, the hosted app of SF doesn't support editing by everyone. Maybe we will install a new version of MediaWiki and try to restore the contents of the old wiki.

This forum is kind of a knowledge base (mostly for bugs). But you are right, that a place to post tips and tricks would be good.

I've just added a new forum called "Tips and tricks / Tipps und Tricks". Feel free to add new articles about the installtion of Firefox 4 and LibreOffice on Ubuntu Wink

This would be of interest for me and maybe others. What packages do you use?

The lang packs are always nl added (because Belgium has 3 national languages - nl, fr, de)

hauke wrote:

The output from the locale command gives me
koenr@koenr-laptop:/$ locale
LANG=nl_BE.utf8
LC_CTYPE="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_TIME="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_COLLATE="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_MONETARY="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_PAPER="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_NAME="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="nl_BE.utf8"
LC_ALL=

So I assume that "nl_BE.utf8" should be sufficient, or do I look at the wrong place?

Thank you for your article Smile

Internally the language settings are expressed by the two letter top level domain names. For Belgium and other countries that have more than one language, this approach will not fit. So I'm developing some new functions for supporting such cases and to support client languages that are not webinterface languages.

I hope to include this language/country support soon in the next m23 release.

Hi,

now it's done. You find the new packages with additional language support at http://m23.sourceforge.net/testing .

Please try and report your results Wink

I tested the new feature in the testing environment. For some reason, changing sources.list and apt-get update && apt-get upgrade was not enough. I had to do an apt-get install m23 to get to version 11.3

I tried to modifiy an already installed client, but that failed due to an SQL error, relating to extra packages I've added to te template of the distribution.. Removing the packages made that I could do a fresh install.

The new install gave me a Dutch Ubuntu, but with a German keyboard layout. All other keyboards where present though. The Belgian keyboard is not set as default.

What patch level (shown on top of the m23 web interface) do you have installed?

Can you post the SQL error message?

Do you use a caching proxy for internet connection? Maybe the new m23 packages or the package index were not received.

It seems that the size of the language row in the database was not increased, if you updated from a previously m23 version. So the Belgian language (internally "be-nl") did not fit into the table row and got reduced to "be" what could not be proessed.

The new version in the testing section should fix it Wink

Just try an update and report, if it works for you Wink

Works like a charm Smile Well spotted!

I'm trying to recreate the SQL error, without any luck up to now.
I'm now on m23 version and patch level: 11.3 rock (100487)

I noticed a "W: GPG error: http://m23.sourceforge.net ./ Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY C6F0913D3305E63A" -error in the client log. Not sure where it comes from, because everything seems to work fine.

It may be that the GPG key that is used for signing the m23 packages is imported at the wrong point during the client installation.

The next (comming soon) patch (100490) in testing will change this. Please update and try again.
