Help: Automatical update
This dialog allows you to specify times when your m23 clients will be automatically updated. You can add several client groups to an update group, whose clients will update regularly on the selected weekdays and at the specified times. The group that is currently active is marked by a green circle.
Add update group
To be able to use the automatical update functionality, you will need at least one update group. Create the group at "Add update group". At "Simultaneous updates", enter the maximum number of clients that should be updated simultaneously. At "Type of update", you can select to use either Normal update (to update installed packages, and only install new packages when these are required) or Full update (to update installed packages, install new packages, and uninstall packages). Then click on "Add update group".
Adding update times and client groups
When you have created an update group, you should now set the time periods during which the group should be updated. In the column "New time interval", select the start and end time and click on "New time interval". Finally, add the client groups from the column "Add group" by clicking on "Add group".
Unset update times and remove client groups
When you click on the red x that follows a period of time or a client group, you can remove them from the update group. To remove the whole update group from the list, click on "Delete" in the corresponding group's row.
Background processes
When there is (at least) one update group, a cron job will be started in 15-minute intervals, and will check for clients that can be updated.
This will boot clients successively, while restricting the number of clients in the update group that are updating to the number given at "Simultaneous updates". When the time frame for the currently active update group has terminated, further clients in the group will not be updated this time. Running updates will not be cancelled.
In addition to this, m23 checks if the update on the clients is actually executed. If the client doesn't start to update within 30 minutes (e.g. because Wake-on-LAN doesn't work), the update job will be retracted, and for the next 24 hours, no further attempts to update will be undertaken.
When the client is already running, the updates will be executed in the background. Clients that have been booted by WOL will be shut down after the update has completed.
When all clients within an update group are done updating, the next group with a suitable time interval will be activated (if there is one).
When the last remaining update group is removed, the cron job entry will also be removed.
In the log file "/m23/log/autoUpdate.log" you will find more info about the updates that were run.
