Is the harddisk of the client detected correctly?

Are the client information in the web interface ok?

What kind of harddisk are you using (SCSI, IDE, size, etc.)?

Do you see the right partition size under

Clients overview -> Control center -> Hardware information ?

If not there was an error detecting the client's harddisk.

This seems to indicate such a problem:

error opening /dev/hda : no such device or adress

Do you need a special IDE controler driver?

Do you need a special IDE controler driver?

What m23 version are you using?

Did you try other Linux distibutions (e.g. Knoppix www.knoppix.de) on the client? Is the harddisk detected correctly there?

Is the harddisk ok? Is it detected by the BIOS?

Can you post the output of "lsmod" after booting from the Knoppix CD please?

The problem could be the 2.4 kernel of the m23 netbootimage. Maybe your IDE controler needs the 2.6 kernel.

The line shows that "piix" is the driver for your IDE controler.

This driver should be linked into the m23 client boot kernel. I can't explain why it doesn't get detected.

You can try to build a new client bootimage with another kernel. This can easyly done by:

  1. Open a console on the server
  2. execute
    Code:
    /mdk/bin/menuStart

  3. choose "clientISO"
  4. choose "kernel"
  5. choose "Download", "V2.4"
  6. select a kernel
  7. wait until the kernel is downloaded and extracted
  8. choose "ConfigureOld"
  9. choose "m23-bootimage-linux-2.4.28.conf"
  10. choose "Menuconfig"
  11. configure the kernel as you like
  12. exit menuconfig
  13. store the configuration
  14. choose "Compile"
  15. choose "Copy"
  16. exit current menu
  17. choose "build"

Now you have a new bootimage. Good luck

Please send me your kernel config file, if your harddisk now gets detectecd.

If not: ask again Wink

I tried to make this actions but i meet a problem, i succeeded to do this :

# Open a console on the server
# execute
Code:
/mdk/bin/menuStart

# choose "clientISO"
# choose "kernel"
# choose "Download", "V2.4"
# select a kernel
# wait until the kernel is downloaded and extracted
# choose "ConfigureOld"
# choose "m23-bootimage-linux-2.4.28.conf"

and when i want to choose the m23-bootimage-linux-2.4.28.conf , i have a error message who said :

rm : cannot remove tmp/kernelconfigFilem233035 : no such file or directory
cp : cannot create regular file mdk/bootimage/kernel/linux-2.4.8/.config
chdir : error retrieving current directory : getcwd : cannot access parent directory

what significates ?
and whats commands i have got to do for burn the image ?

The MDK scripts are far away from being perfect Cool

It seems you have chosen a really old kernel.
Quote:
cp : cannot create regular file mdk/bootimage/kernel/linux-2.4.8/.config

You should download a 2.4.28 kernel and try again.

You don't need to burn a client CD. If you want, you can burn it in the web interface ("Make boot CD"). But you probably won't need a CD, if you booted from PXE, Etherboot or boot floppy before. The network boot image will be updated if the building step worked.
