The virtual memory will be assigned to the VMs when they get started and therefore subtracted from the free memory of the VM host. Every VM uses a virtual harddisk that is stored in a file which is small at the beginning and grows when data is filled in. Running applications in a VM will result in a lower execution speed than running on the same machine without virtualisation.
